Sport Chek Mother’s Day Run & Walk

Sport Chek Mother's Day Run & Walk

A huge thank you goes out to over 800 volunteers and 14,867 people who, despite some questionable weather, laced up their running shoes in support of the 33rd annual Sport Chek Mother’s Day Run & Walk on Sunday, May 9. The enthusiastic group took over the streets in downtown Calgary, starting their journey at the Calgary Tower and looping back around to finish and join in celebrations at Olympic Plaza.

Donated funds raised through the 2010 Mother’s Day Run & Walk will help advance the quality of care available to newborns at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Foothills Medical Centre, and Special Care Nurseries at Rockyview General Hospital and Peter Lougheed Centre.

Equipment being purchased with proceeds from this year’s event includes: a portable ECG monitor; Veinviewers which will make IV access easier and minimize the number of pokes a baby will receive; and three new Infant Flow® SiPAP™ units which will gently and effectively provide non-invasive respiratory support to infants with respiratory disease. Giraffe phototherapy technology will also make it easier to treat jaundice and promote development in newborns while enabling infant-parent bonding.
