The Fairmont Palliser was the gathering place for one of Calgary’s most prestigious fundraisers January 28 & 29, 2010. The Great Italian Wine Encounter (GIWE) hosted outstanding wines, great food and great friends, raising significant funds for Calgary’s Apheresis Clinic at the Foothills Medical Centre.
Gala Auction
Over 300 guests raised their glasses in support of the Apheresis Clinic at the GIWE Gala Auction. They were joined by fifteen of Italy’s finest winemakers, each showcasing their own distinct blend. Guests were also treated to a short presentation by wine critic and author Matt Kramer.
The cocktail style evening featured an impressive spread of culinary delights, as well as a live and silent auction which featured an extensive selection of Vendemmia wines. |
Women of Wine Luncheon
Five of Italy’s female winemakers spent Friday afternoon with an exclusive group of Calgary’s female business professionals to discuss topics of international interest. Matt Kramer acted as emcee for the afternoon and women indulged in the flavors of five unique wines.
Thank you to everyone who supported this event. GIWE takes place every two years and has ongoing commitment to helping eradicate leumekia, lymphoma and bone marrow cancer through apheresis therapy–a procedure where blood is taken from a patient’s body, separated into cell layers and treated appropriately.
Apheresis holds great promise for treatments of other diseases, preventing the rejection of heart and other vital transplanted organs, and exciting new therapies used in cancer treatments in the future. Your support will help the Apheresis Clinic reach new heights in its journey as a world-class centre for excellence in apheresis therapy.
