Mike Metcalfe 30 Hour Soccer Marathon

Mike Metcalfe 30 Hour Soccer Marathon

The Mike Metcalfe 30 Hour Soccer Marathon scores with another successful event that was held November 6 & 7, 2009. Thank you for your support.

Proceeds from this year’s event are helping purchase a CaridianBCT Spectra Cell Sorter Apheresis System. This technology provides essential care to patients who need a blood or bone marrow transplant – patients with diseases like leukemia and lymphoma or with immune system disorders. Areas that will benefit from the purchase of the Spectra include: Nephrology, Neurology, Immunology and the Hematology Divisions at the Foothills Medical Centre.

Mike hosted his first 30 Hour Soccer Marathon in fall 2004 after being diagnosed with testicular cancer. He endured over 500 hours of chemotherapy and cancer treatment before his friends decided to take a kick at cancer together. Mike is an avid soccer player so a soccer marathon was fitting.
